One-sentence synopsis: Following the breakup with his girlfriend, Dan moves into a crumbling sharehouse in Newtown, and learns to put himself and his emotions on the line in the name of love.
One-paragraph synopsis: Following the breakup with his girlfriend, Dan moves into a sharehouse out the back of Newtown. It’s a crumbling old double-storey terrace which has been neglected by its landlord; it creaks like a ship in the slightest breeze, and the walls seem to move in certain lights. The other occupants of the house – Megan, her cat Allegra, and her friend Charlie – all make Dan feel at home.
There’s Charlie and her cactuses; Megan and her grandfather; a cavalcade of possums; a mattress dragged through the house into the yard; books and beer; a barbecue that catches fire; a date with David Attenborough; a cat that goes missing (a catastrophe by any other name); letters from friends (and once-upon-a-time lovers); a fledgling relationship; a break-up; a farcical inspection; and, at the end of all things, a party on their last night together…
